'We call you Saint.'
The name ignited a light in Carl's mind. Saint. He'd been covertly recruited for Black Ops and given his life to the most brutal kind of training any man or woman could endure. He was here because he belonged here. To the X Group.
An assassin. The most effective killer in the world. And yet... Carl Strople struggles to retain fleeting memories that betray an even more ominous reality. He's been told part of the truth - but not all of it.
Invasive techniques have stripped him of his identity and made him someone new - for this he is grateful. But there are some things they can't take from him. The love of a woman, unbroken loyalties to his past, the need for survival.

Story is weak; narrator is worse

I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks over the last ten years and this was probably the worst I ever endured. I did listen to the entire book, but only because I thought that the author's reputation merited me at least giving it a chance to get moving as I listened further. But instead I found myself far more frustrated than entertained. First of all the reader, Kevin King, was horrible. The characters, despite being from Alabama, had no accents. They could just as well have been from Columbus, Ohio. But that was only minor compared to the way he read the story. Good readers can, and should, make an audiobook seem like you are listening to a "performance", and their talents add to the mood of a story. This reader, despite his acting credentials listed on the cover notes, sounded like he was simply reading a book to a grade school audience. As a result, it came out sounding more like a Scooby-Doo episode than a horror novel. Very disappointing, and I'd give him less than one "*" on this effort. As for the story itself, it was very hard to follow and quite monotonous. It seemed like a never-ending game of the "good guys" and "bad guys" taking the weapons from each other. And perhaps it was because of the reader, but I had absolutely no feel for the emotions of any characters, thus no empathy for any of them. I really just wanted the book to end, and that is NOT a good endorsement of any mode of entertainment. Perhaps a different reader could have made it more enjoyable.
